Turmeric ginger amla marmalade

The combination of turmeric, ginger and amla is used in Ayurvedic preparations to improve respiratory health, so I decided to combine the three with fresh orange juice to make it into a marmalade. Many kids may not enjoy marmalade because of its bitter after taste, but here there is no bitterness as the juice of fresh oranges has been used. If you do not have fresh turmeric just use turmeric powder. The result is a flavoursome jam that is just packed with goodness. You could replace the white sugar with brown sugar or palm sugar. This is a very easy recipe and can be made in less than 30 mins. With only natural ingredients there is literally nothing but wholesomeness in this marmalade.

Ingredients:

Orange juice (3 oranges) – 1 cup
Fresh turmeric (grated) – 2 tbsp
Use 1 heaping tsp turmeric powder if you don’t have fresh turmeric
Ginger (grated) – 1 tbsp
Amla or Indian gooseberry (grated) – 2 tbsp
Lemon juice – 2 medium lemons
Sugar – 3/4 cup
Add all the ingredients to a thick bottom pot and stir continuously till it reaches a runny jam like consistency. It will thicken further upon cooling. Enjoy it on toast or whichever way you want to eat it. Makes one 250 gm glass jar. As there is no preservative please keep refrigerated.
